It's so easy!
Simply place Silverette® over your nipples, using your bra or nursing singlet to hold them in place. Wear them for a couple of hours at a time, or as tolerated, in between feeding/pumping sessions.
There's no need to wipe your nipples before feeding and no creams or balms are needed - they are an all-in-one nipple care aid.
If you leak a lot, we recommend wearing nursing pads over the top of your cups, to soak up any excess milk.
We highly recommend taking a break from wearing Silverette® for a few hours each day, or as needed, particularly if you leak a lot. Let your nipples air dry daily - a bit of sunshine on them can work wonders! While a moist environment is conducive to healing and helps prevents cracks and cuts, excess moisture can irritate the nipples and surrounding skin and potentially delay nipple healing. Please exercise caution and monitor the nipples and surrounding skin daily. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your Midwife, Doctor or Lactation Consultant.
To soothe existing pain/damage - wear them until your nipples have recovered and the pain has resolved.
As a preventative measure - wear them for the first 3 - 4 weeks or as long as needed.
To clean - rinse them under water daily or as needed to remove any milk residues. To bring back the shine, sprinkle a little baking soda into each cup, add a drop or two of water, scrub and rinse. Pat dry.
Important: While some irritation and discomfort from breastfeeding can be expected in the first week or two, ongoing pain, cracked nipples and/or severe nipple damage should be investigated further. We recommend seeing your Midwife or a Lactation Consultant to ensure the latch and positioning are correct and to check for lip and/or tongue ties. Silverette® can help soothe and protect your nipples while the underlying cause is being determined.
